Week 3
In week three things are really starting to pick up in my classes. I feel like I am really growing in all areas on my road to becoming a teacher. Life is really starting to teach me that things do not always go as planned but I am slowly learning how to just keep moving on and stay focused on my main goal. My main goal is to graduate in the spring of 2018 from Gardner-Webb with my degree in elementary education. Tuesday for class we traveled to Washington Elementary and met the teachers and toured the school, I had a great time and I am super pumped to be able to spend the semester helping out such a great group of teachers at a great school. Thursdays class we spent majority of the time talking about how to make generalizations between two concepts. This discussion really helped me to gain a deeper understanding of what a generalization is. We also discussed SMART goals and Lindsey started out with her goal and by the end of the discussion she had a completely different goal and I learned a lot while talking through the goals and I am excited to begin my personal development plan. We touched on edTPA at the end of class just a little bit and the biggest thing that stuck out to me was when Dr. Parker used Mallory, Colleen, and Megan and said edTPA wants to know how you helped the AIG student to learn, how you helped the "bubble" student to rise above the bubble, and how you helped the struggling student to rise up. NCTCS states that as a teacher I need to create a respectful environment for my students to learn and I believe edTPA has a direct correlation to that. Overall, week three was a success for me even after a few bumps in the road, I am still growing as a future teacher and I cannot be any more excited.

Hello Hannah,
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel for this semester. I plan to graduate in spring of 2018 as well. I feel there is still so much to learn before I become a teacher. I am thankful that Dr. Parker gave us a brief overview of what to expect from the edTPA. Though it is nerve wracking, I am glad to find out about the process early rather than later. I always try to take school step by step and day by day. Your Washington Elementary tour sounds exciting. I would love to hear more about your Washington experiences.
Hannah,
ReplyDeleteToday's class was so helpful to me as well. Online video's are amazing in helping with the flipped classroom, but sometimes it is good to have that face-to-face time for interaction and questions. I also enjoyed going to Washington Elementary and having the opportunity to meet with the teachers we will be working with. Every week there is something new to learn, and I am thankful that social studies has helped me grow so much in just the first 3 weeks. I couldn't tell you a thing about concepts, SMART goals, or the shift in social studies before now. From what I am reading, you are learning and growing, too.
Have a great weekend, Hannah.
Hannah,
ReplyDeleteI feel that we learned so much information today and over these past few weeks, it's so much to retain. I am glad that you are getting a better understanding of the class and so am I. Getting to work with Washington will help us get our foot out the door for when we student teach. From getting so much information in class, we will now have a better understanding of edTPA, even though there is much more to know. It's always to know a little something at first. Also, being able to work on our units from step by step will help us when we have to do it on our own. Dr. Parker helps us out so much. Great post!
Hannah,
ReplyDeleteYes, we covered a lot last week. Whew! I am hopeful that the partnership with Washington is going to be beneficial for us and for the students at the school. How did you make intentional connections to the NCTCS this week? How did you connect your coursework to your future classroom?
What outside learning experiences did you complete?
I agree Hannah we have certainly been busy. I felt that the edTPA was a bit overwhelming. I think as we begin to see more of it I may feel more comfortable. Im also very happy we are seeing edTPA earlier I really don't like surprises.
